Pottery (dated circa 7th century BC) found in the region between Columbia and Equador is known for it's black-on-red resist pattern of geometric parallel lines, concentric rhomboids, dots, and cross-net patterns as negative design.  This pedestaled bowl has those characteristics and may have been discovered in a shaft-and-chamber grave or a simple shaft without chambers.

This piece is intact with one minor dime-sized restored chip on the rim.  It is a quality Narino piece with an incised rim.  The underside of the pedestal is covered with dendrites. Much of the geometric pattern has been lost over time, but that does not detract from its charming beauty.

This Narino Bi-chrome Pottery Fruitera is an excellent example of a wax-resist server on a high cylindrical base.  The fruitera has multiple bands of black-on-red geometric motifs. The negative resist pattern is bold and crisp.  There is a smaller than dime-sized chip on the underside of the rim, with no cracks or restoration of any kind. Well used as detected from the nice surface wear on the base and rim from more than 7 centuries ago.

Superb

13.5" H X 6" W x 4

A superb effigy of a priest from the Mayan Empire (the late classic period) dating to around 1000AD. It has a slanted curve to the top back area. The stone is the same material mattas (corn grinders) were made from in this region - A porous light stone.  It shows some red coloring left on the inside areas and backside (most of which has worn off). The right back of the headdress shows an area almost gone from age. Fire burns on one side and the backside.  Two old mounting holes in the back (the lower one has a major chip as does the base of this area). Minor chips and abrasions throughout but not enough to deter the museum quality of this piece.

The inside rim is adorned by red circular and linear designs. All in all, the black and red colors contrast with a light orange background. The item is in very good shape. There is one dime-sized rim flake, a small chip from the inner bottom, and some surface scratching is present. Otherwise the bowl is intact.
