Hurricane Wilma Photos

My Florida house was nestled in a residential neighborhood called Victoria Park, which is within walking distance of downtown, Broward Blvd and Las Olas.  It was about 2 miles from the beach.  The first photo is the way it looked when I left Fort Lauderdale.  The next three are are a couple months later after Hurricane Wilma.  The big oak tree in front came down, the palm trees were stripped and the landscaping was either flattened or blew away.  The guesthouse in back was damaged, and I'm sure from my experience with Hurricanes Irene, Jeanne, Francis, Charlie and Ivan, the pool would have been a disaster.  The columns in front are crooked and leaning.  I've also been told that awnings and windows were damaged, and part of the roof of the guesthouse was damaged as well.

Scroll down to see what Hurricane Wilma did to my old neighborhood, and the surrounding areas of downtown, Las Olas and down by the beach.  It didn't get a lot of news coverage because of what Hurricane Katrina did to Louisiana and Mississippi a few months before, but you can see how destructive it really was.  My friends were living off generators for months.
